Color Your Summer Altenew Educators Instagram Reel Hop

Hello and welcome! 

Today I am super excited to be joining the Altenew Educators Instagram reel hop - my very first! 

The theme for this hop is COLOR YOUR SUMMER and is all about drawing inspiration from a vibrant summer color palette.

I chose blues 💙 And together with some beautiful greens it turned out quite summery, don't you think?

I started out stamping the large flower with a light ink and left the stamp in the MISTI while working with the stencils.

I played around with my blue tones from the Sweet Dreams color familiy, making sure I got some lighter areas and some more heavily inked darker areas. I went back and forth between the different stencils to add more color where needed.

When I was happy with the coloring, I stamped the image a second time using Obsidian Pigment Ink to get the black lines.

To add interest and personality to this image I wanted to add some extra hand-drawn lines. I used a black fineliner and added lines to define and shape the petals. I used the stamped and stenciled lines as guides to where the lines should go. In the corners where lines meet, I added more ink for extra drama and definition.

This technique is inspired by the Zentangle method and is called weighting or rounding. It is suitable for all stamped images and gives it a great personal touch.

For my final step I stamped a black HUGS on top of the flower, added a sentiment strip on foam tape, some blue splatters and finally some matching enamel dots.
